CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Miramichi Multiplex is a combined recreational facility that provides replacement and upgrades of multiple aging facilities in the city while consolidating operational costs through shared facility synergies. The new facility will be a landmark building which integrates with the existing city fabric while visually connecting to other city landmarks, such as the Centennial Bridge. The building and site have been designed to accommodate a second ice pad in the future, increasing the city’s ability to provide additional ice time and comprehensive ice programming.

The design approach to the Multiplex focused on the appropriate sizing of each program element while ensuring shared administration and amenities provide suffi cient support across he various spaces. The design prioritized visual connections between the large program areas encouraging views complementary activities and amenities to encourage full facility use by all.

The building lobby contributes to the facility experience by providing clear visual connections to the arena, gym, multi-purpose, and aquatics spaces directly upon entry. The lobby is the core circulation hub of the building, with a centrally located welcome desk and administrative offi ces with control access to the facility changerooms while maintaining visual connections to key spaces.

Each of the facility’s major spaces are designed with robust environmental and acoustic separations to accommodate the various climatic and acoustic needs within the facility. This affords the lobby or multipurpose rooms to program more quiet or low sensory events while high activity spaces are in full operation. The result is a beautiful design that is, inviting, easily accessible, adaptable, and comfortable to use in full support of municipal programming needs and city’s aspirations to off er its residents a state-of-the-art recreational facility for generations to come.
